Vicky Kelman is the Director of the Jewish Family Education Project of the Bureau of Jewish Education of the San Francisco Bay Area. She is the author of several publications in the area of Jewish Family Education and is the founding director of the first Family Camp at a Ramah camp (ojai, CA). She was a recipient of the Covenant Award in 2003. She is married to Rabbi Stuart Kelman with whom she shares 4 children, 3 children-in-law, and 4 grandchildren. Vicky lives in Berkeley, CA and is a New York Mets fan. The Great Limmud Colorado Family Shabbat Show
Join us for an intergenerational Shabbat program in which WE are the entertainment. No prior experience required. This session is suitable for all ages (newborns to grandparents), all levels of Jewish background, and all kinds of families. The only pre-requisites: all kids must be accompanied by an adult; come to have fun and enjoy Shabbat together (no one sits this one out).
Using the G-word Talking with kids about God
Have you even frozen in your tracks or broken out in a cold sweat upon being asked a question about God or the meaning of life by a small child or by a provocative teenager? If yes, then this session is for you. We will talk about our own experiences with those tough questions and take a look at what the field of faith development has to say as well as how the tools of Jewish tradition can help us and our kids open up this important quest.
How to Provide Our Kids With Lasting Values in a Throwaway World?
As we struggle to help our children learn that an ipod or iphone will not provide happiness, we run headlong into American “affluenza,” media, peer pressure, competition, and… and… In this session, we will explore ways in which we can hold off the onslaught and provide our kids with values that will help them grow to be sturdy, responsible, and independent . We will consider the tools and lanterns that Jewish tradition provides to guide us on the way.
