Frank Lloyd Wright and Beth Sholom Synagogue

The Architecture of Collaboration

  • Sunday 4:30PM–5:45PM Foxfire
What happens when a dedicated Rabbi collaborates with one of the most daring and accomplished architects of the 20th Century? After volumes of correspondence, they create a synagogue rich in symbolism and intent: "A new thing - the American spirit wedded to the ancient spirit of Israel." But why is the building shaped like a distorted hexagon? How did the space race influence the building materials? Why do certain menorahs have seven branches, rather than nine? Join Elkins Park native and Beth Sholom docent Jennifer Rackow to learn about this stunning synagogue, designated a National Historic Landmark in 2007.
