A former director of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (iajgs.org), Ellen is webmaster and newsletter editor for the Jewish Genealogical Society of Colorado. She has led group trips to visit ancestral shtetls in Ukraine, created online finding aids for conducting genealogical research, written articles and lectured to audiences nationwide. Originally from New York, Ellen was president of UAHC’s Central New York Federation of Temple Youth her high school senior year. She is married to an Israeli-American, and their daughters attend JCC Preschool in Boulder. Jewish Genealogy 101: What Can You Expect to Find
Getting started with researching family history has never been easier with access to archival materials, vital records and many Internet resources available online. Learn about the process and document your own story as a part of Jewish history. This introductory session will instruct how to begin a genealogy research project; how to analyze and use existing information; and examine the kinds of resources available. Personal anecdotes, documents, photographs and more will be used. A handout with useful website addresses will be distributed.
