Matthew Friedman

Matthew is an Associate Director for the Pacific Southwest Region of the Anti-Defamation League, based in Los Angeles. He works in the area of Holocaust Education in addition to aiding victims of hate crimes and incidents throughout LA County. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Matthew came to Southern California to study Jewish Education and Non-Profit Management at American Jewish University. Prior to going West, Matt lived in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was also a Jewish communal professional.

In the days and weeks following the end World War II, we witnessed the collision of two worlds: the world of the Holocaust survivor and the world of those who helped liberate them. Using "Echoes and Reflections: A Multimedia Curriculum on the Holocaust," we will examine the unique meaning of liberation for Jews at the end of the war and the complex emotional ramifications of liberation for both Jews and the Allied soldiers who liberated them.

One of the best means of helping others understand the impact and the importance of the Shoah (the Holocaust) is to hear the individual stories of survivors. This session will introduce educators to "Echoes and Reflections: A Multimedia Curriculum on the Holocaust," developed jointly by the Anti-Defamation League, the USC Shoah Foundation Institute, and Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial.
